Not long after ordination Fr. Gnanasekar (or Sekar for short) was appointed as Priest-in-charge of the newly established quasi-parish of St. Anthony’s Tembipada, Bhandup, Bombay. Though his first experience as Parish Priest, he soon organized the entire parish setting it on its feet financially and pastorally. SCCs were set up and began functioning efficiently. He did not remain long there as he was called to the area of formation in the Region. After doing a year’s training at NVSC, Pune, he took up the post of Novice-master at Agashi and accompanied seven groups of students through the crucial years of their initial formation. Even during these years, he soon gained a name as a good preacher not only at Eucharist but also of retreats both in English and Tamil. Feeling called more to this aspect of the pastoral ministry, he has done one year (sabbatical) of intense retreat preaching all over the length and breadth of India. He has completed his M. Th. studies at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeetha, Pune while being attached to St. Francis Xavier’s Chapel community, Colaba.

Fr. Gnanasekar was the Vicar Provincial, Acting Director of the Scholasticate at Goregaon and the Director of the Centre for Eucharistic Evangelization situated at Mazagon.

He was elected as Provincial Superior in Nov. 2009.

At present he is also the superior of the community at St. Francis Xavier's Chapel, Colaba
