Eucharist in the Workplace

Introduction : Meaning of “Eucharist in the Workplace”
Work in the plan of God – collaborating with God in the continuing work
of creation … ‘and God saw that it was very good…’ After sin, work be-
came an expression of punishment with drudgery, disappointment etc.
This is true when we work apart from God (recall Jn. 15:1-5).

1. The key aspects of Eucharist :
* Call to Covenant – life of union with God
* Paschal Mystery – die to self to let God work through me
* Memorial – love and obedience towards God expressed in breaking of
oneself in service of others

2. How do these values shine through in the place of work?
* Covenant partners with God in building a better world … quality of our work
matters … take joy and pride in our work … work of human hands …
* Love brings with it cooperation, synergy, obedience, seeking the good of
others, greater productivity …
* Respect for others esp. those subordinate [If you are offering your gift at the
altar and there remember…] Forgiveness even up to seventy times seven
* Respect for Nature, ecology – “what earth has given and human hands have
made”
* Need for integrity, honesty, a win-win and abundance mentality

3. Other Eucharistic values:
* Berakah : joyful praise of God in all circumstances
* Proclamation – mission … evangelization
* Memorial – making Jesus, Risen Lord present in our midst.
